REV. THOMAS MOSCROP
Rev. Thomas Moscrop was born at Bacup on April 29 1860. He came to Ceylon in 1883. He was the acting Principal at Richmond during the time Rev. Wilkin went on furlough. Later on he was the Principal of Wesley College for seventeen years.
As Principal of Wesley College Colombo he brought that instituition into the front rank of Ceylon Schools. He was a good preacher as well as an educationist especially during his 3 years in Kandy where in addition to vernacular work he preached week by week to an English speaking congregation composed of people of several nationalities, both Eastern and Western. In 1894 he was appointed Chairman of the Colombo District. The 6 years of his Chairmanship were distinguished by advances in many directions- in mission buildings and organisations as well as spiritual efficiency. In his English circuit work his sermons were marked by vigorous thought and clear and picturesque expression.
He served in Ceylon for 34 years and died on 7th July, 1920. He married Emma Ellen Duckers.
